KOHIMA: The All Kohima Indane Distributors Association (AKIDA) has urged J Alam, chief secretary of Nagaland, to add frontline staff of LPG distributors to the frontline workers list for COVID-19 vaccination by May 10.

AKIDA also warned that if the government fails to do so, AKIDA will hold their services and stay away from the COVID surge in Nagaland.

In a letter written to the chief secretary by Kuolachlie Seyie and Tseibou Dzuvichu, the president and general secretary of AKIDA respectively stated that the Nagaland govt has not made COVID vaccines available for LPG distributor neither on paid basis nor for free.

The letter also stated that the LPG distributors and their staff are at higher risk of COVID contamination as they visit door to door for service and it requires physical interaction with the public.

In India as many as 61 persons succumbed to the COVID-19 virus alone from the LPG sector, the letter claimed.

It had been also pointed out by AKIDA that the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has requested all staff of LPG distributors to be considered as frontline workers for COVID vaccination earlier this year.
