KOHIMA: The venue of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), the Nagaland version of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), consultative meeting on April 16 has been changed.

According to a state home department release today, the venue has been shifted from the Nagaland Civil Secretariat's conference hall here to the State Banquet Hall at chief minister's residential complex here.

The consultative meeting will be held with all tribal Hohos and organisations "on the appropriate modalities and structures to achieve the RIIN's objective".

However, an apex body of Naga tribes has asked the Nagaland government not to rush in to the process of preparing the RIIN, which is modelled after Assam's NRC.

According to reports, the Nagaland government is trying to resurrect the RIIN exercise.

It was launched in July 2019. Its aim is to prevent outsiders from acquiring fake indigenous certificates in order to apply for jobs and government benefits.

The Nagaland government had previously formed an inner line permit (ILP) Committee which recommended the development of a master list known as RIIN.
