KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has allowed religious places/places of worship to function with 100% capacity due to the dip in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

"In partial modification of Order issued vide NO. CSO/GAB-I/COM/GEN-I/2020, dated 10.06.2020, Office of Chief Secretary, Nagaland, regarding the opening of religious places/places of religious worship; Para 3 (i) of the aforesaid Order shall be read as: "The number of persons to be allowed in any religious place/place of worship is up to 100% of the capacity of that building/place, subject to adherence to COVID appropriate behaviour such as wearing of mask and hand sanitization," read an order issued earlier today by Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha.

The modification shall come into force with immediate effect with the remaining order remaining unchanged, the official communique further stated.

All religious places of worship in Nagaland were closed down after the COVID-19 pandemic landed on our shores. On June 10, however, a High Powered Committee on COVID-19 gave a nod for re-opening of Churches/places of worship in Nagaland with 30% capacity.

This decision was taken on June 10 during the HPC review meeting held under the chairmanship of the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
