Nagaland: Pregnant woman who returned from Maharashtra, quarantined in Peren

A pregnant woman, along with her husband, were quarantined at a quarantine facility at Ahthibung in Peren district of Nagaland.

They had arrived at Jalukie in the district from Maharashtra on June 9^th, 2020. After four days of quarantine there, they were shifted to the quarantine facility at Ahthibung on June 13^th, 2020.

The duo was presented with a welcome gift package each during a short briefing at the centre’s premises by the Ahthibung police station officer in-charge, Akum Nungsang, on June 14^th, 2020.

Each gift pack contained daily essential items such as toilet soap, bathing soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitizer, hand towel, pocket-size Bible, pen and notepad.

Athibung SDO (Civil) Rupfoukutuo Noudi, gaon burhas (village headmen) of the area, officials of health and family welfare department and police personnel were present during the briefing and presentation of gift packs.

At present, the husband-wife duo is the only inmates at the centre. Nineteen more returnees are scheduled to arrive at the centre late Sunday night, member secretary of the quarantine centre Chungminthang Singson told this reporter.

The two are permanent residents of Khelma village under Ahthibung sub-division in Peren district. They were working as teachers in Bimal English School, Bhokar, in Nanded district of Maharashtra before returning to Nagaland.

Quoting her statement, Singson said the 24-year-old woman is in the ninth month of her pregnancy and her delivery is due on June 23.

He said the management board of the quarantine centre is rendering all possible assistance to the pregnant woman and her husband. He said apart from medical check-up by the health workers, the community at Ahthibung has been providing essentials besides locally found dietary supplements to them. There are five security personnel attached to the quarantine centre, he added.

“However, our worry despite our best assistance is absence of a gynecologist at the Ahthibung PHC,” Singson said.

“Adding to our woes is the effect of the ongoing strike by sections of the health department as this is going to her first delivery,” he said.

The management board of the quarantine centre thanked the Ahthibung SDO (Civil) and other line departments for their guidance and support being rendered towards management of the centre till date and all well-wishers and sympathisers for their generous contributions to help run the centre.

Nagaland has registered a total of 177confirmed COVID-19 cases; of which 89 are active and 88 have been cured and discharged so far. However, the state has not reported any death.
