Kohima, February 1, 2020:

Q Tuccu, the Chairman of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim's Isaak-Muivah faction, on the occasion of the outfit's 41st 'Raising Day', briefly recalled the course of the Naga national movement and reiterated its commitment to the cause of 'Nagalim for Christ', adding that the State of Nagaland was conceived by the Indian Union to "divide" Nagas.

"Raising the need for change, Tuccu said, "We Nagas must also move to change for the better or perish. We must change in all fields through revolution. Revolution will stay in our land so long as our sovereign right to decide our future by ourselves is suppressed."

“The Naga national resistance movement began the day the aggressors intruded into our land. The Constituent Assembly of India invited the Nagas to join the Union of India in 1950, but it was flatly rejected by the Nagas,” he recounted. Tuccu went on to say that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, retaliated, as he said: “Even if heaven falls and the whole country goes to pieces and rivers run red with blood, I will never allow the Nagas to be independent.”

Tuccu said that following this, the government of India (GoI) sent its armed forces to subdue the Nagas with “brute force”. However, the Nagas “survived the onslaught of the India colonial forces”.

“The so-called Nagaland state embracing a part of the Naga people and a part of Naga territory was created in 1963 purely with a view to divide the Nagas and fight the Nagas through the state machineries,” he said. He added that the Naga national issue was saved in his (referring to the Almighty God) name by the revolutionary patriots. He recalled how some “top leaders” changed its side and “surrendered to the enemies [GoI] in the name of revolutionary government in 1968”, although the “Naga people led by national leaders stayed the course”.

The declaration of the Presidential Rule (PR) in Nagaland state, according to him, was “to create fear psychosis in the minds of the Nagas”, under which the infamous Shillong Accord was signed in 1975 by some “NNC leaders betraying the principle” and was condemned by the National Assembly under the leadership of Isak and Muivah. He said that the leaders of the Shillong Accord “plotted a military coup where top national leaders including Isak and Muivah were arrested to be executed” and hundreds of national workers were killed.

“But the unique history of the Nagas was saved from the accord of treason by the workers who were faithful to the cause of Nagalim for Christ,” he added. Tuccu again recounted how in 1988, SS Khaplang staged another “coup d’état in collaboration with the enemies” killing hundreds of people “on fabricated grounds and in the name of peace offensive” but that the “revolutionary patriots under the leadership of Isak Chishi Swu and Th Muivah remained loyal to the nation” and survived the “ruthless offensive of their collusion forces”.

“Realising the futility of seeking military solution, Government of India invited the NSCN for political talks. And finally, Government of India and NSCN as two entities signed the historic Framework Agreement on 3rd August, 2015. We praised the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, who took the bold and historic step in signing the Framework Agreement. It is historic because Government of India recognizes the unique history and sovereignty of the Nagas,” said Tuccu.

“It also says coexistence of the two entities sharing sovereign power. Government of India has also recognised the territory of the Nagas and the legitimate right of the Nagas to integration. The Indians and Nagas will coexist as partners, not enemies; they will walk together in many areas in the spirit of cooperation and coordination, not confrontation and opposition. The agreement also says creation of a pan Naga Hoho, a statutory body which will deal with cultural affairs, social, integrity and interests of the Nagas. We believe this agreement will open a new era for a new relationship between the peoples if the Indian leaders do not go back upon their word,” he added.

He said that some national workers “ran away” from the movement in the sweet name of ‘Unification move’ in 2007 despite the political talks but the “revolutionary patriots stayed the course with the people to save the issue”.

“In their unceasing attempts to subdue the Nagas, the enemies are still around in one form or the other. Their strategy is to fight the Nagas through the Nagas and to sabotage the Naga political talks through the Nagas, so that the Naga national issue is murdered by the Nagas themselves. And that enemies have already penetrated into our organisations and system. We must be aware of the enemies within,” said Tuccu.

Urging its members to “stand the ground firmly with the people and God”, he said that NSCN will cling to the issue even if others run away from the “battle of Nagalim for Christ”. “We will not look to the east or the west for help, but we will look up to the Lord our redeemer with whom we started our movement and we will finish it with Him,” he said.

“At this stage of decisive moment, all revolutionary patriots must once again stand firm the ground with the people with one mind and one decision in the mighty name of the Lord. We will cling to the Framework Agreement signed between the government of NSCN as two entities, to which the whole world was the witness. The Lord in whom we trust is the faithful God. He will never leave us midway. Let us be strong and courageous in faith. This is the crucial moment where we make history-in life or death,” he concluded.
