Nagaland's Dzükou Valley to be Declared 'Plastic Free Zone'

Kohima, June 4, 2019:

The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) is all set to declare Nagaland's Dzükou Valley a ‘Plastic Free Zone’, coinciding with World Environment Day on June 5.

The youth body had undertaken a beautification of the Dzükou Valley last month and had cleared the area of plastics and compost waste materials.

It may be mentioned that careless disposal of plastic waste in and around the valley over the years has not only become an eyesore but also greatly endangers the pristine environment.

Er. Zale Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports will make the official declaration on June 5 in the presence of the public at Viswema village at 10:00am.

Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) President, Vimeyol Theyo will also address the gathering.

The Dzükou/Dzüko Valley is a valley located at the border of the states of Manipur and Nagaland in northeast India. This valley is well known for its natural environment, seasonal flowers and flora and fauna. It is situated at an altitude of 2452 m above sea level. The rare Dzükou Lily is found only in this valley.

The valley is also a well-known destination for nature-lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers.
