GUWAHATI: Nandil Biswa Sarma, the son of Assam’s dynamic minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, today cast his vote for the very first time at the Amingaon High School in the third and final phase of polling.

After stepping out of the polling booth, Nandil expressed that "it feels good to know that every vote matters.”

Asked about his father’s massive following in his home constituency of Jalukbari, Nandil Biswa Sarma said, “My father works hard and sometimes he comes home at 4 am and leaves early in the morning at 7 am. However, it feels good when I see how many people attend the meetings and that so many people are showering him with love."

The minister’s hectic schedule, however, has not stopped the minister from giving ample time to his two children, said Nandil.

“There have been many times when father has meetings or emergency commitments. But, he gives as much time as is possible to me and my sister."

Asked about the impact of this government on the youth, Nandil Biswa Sarma said, "I think people have understood the importance of the health care infrastructure during the time of corona. Youth are also appreciating the government schemes such as Arunodoi and Ayushman Bharat.”

The youngster also opined that the government should focus more on education and healthcare in the times to come out.

Nandil Biswa Sarma also ruled out a possible foray into politics for the moment. "Right now, the only focus is on studies,” he said with a wry smile.

Polling for 40 seats in the final phase of the assembly elections in Assam began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday to decide the fate of 337 candidates, including senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his five cabinet colleagues and state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.

A direct contest between nominees of the BJP-led NDA and Congress-headed Grand Alliance is on the cards in 20 constituencies while there is a triangular fight, including friendly contests, in the remaining seats with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) being considered as the third force.
