National disaster management directs Centre to continue lockdown measures till May 31

The National Disaster Management Authority has directed the Central government to take measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Issuing an order, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) asked the ministries/ departments of Government of India, State Governments and State Authorities to continue the lockdown measures up to May 31, 2020.

“In exercise of the powers of the section of the 6 (2) (I) of the Disaster Management Act 2005, 24^th March, 2020, 14^th April 2020 and on 1^st May 2020. The NDMA directed the ministries/ departments of Government of India, state government and state authorities to take measures so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country,” the order stated.

It further stated, “Considering the fact, the lockdown measures need to be implemented for a further period in the country to contain the spread of COVID-19, NDMA, in exercise of powers under sections 6 (2) (I) of the NDMA 2005 hereby directs the ministries, departments of government of India and the state authorities to continue the lockdown measures upto May 31, 2020.”

The authority further directs the NEC to issue modifications in the guidelines as necessary, keeping in view the need to open up economic activities while containing the spread of COVID-19.
