Kolkata, December 7, 2019:

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the India Today Conclave East 2019 stated that the new nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be mandated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking on the lines of the Assam NRC, Biswa Sarma stated that the Supreme Court monitored process was a stepping-stone, however, the 'complex process' could not be delivered by the apex Court.

Responding to allegations of 'communalism', Biswa Sarma explained that the Government is targeting the Muslims who have come to India for 'economic reasons'. "We are going to see that their names are not in the NRC, Biswa Sarma said. He further added that a nationwide NRC is the need of the hour to drive out the 'economic infiltrators' from the country.
