GUWAHATI: The Assam Government to provide separatist outfit National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) chief Ranjan Daimary a VIP cell in Chirang instead of his current room at 10 APBn Headquarter in Kahilipara, Guwahati.

"After holding a discussion with all the concerned parties, the government has decided to facilitate him (Ranjan Daimary) a home-like environment in Chirang, but it has nothing to do with his release. That matter is sub judice," said Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Assam Cabinet Minister of Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes, speaking with the media persons.

Bodoland Guest House situated in Kajalgaon of Chirang district will be converted to Daimary's new VIP cell with all the lavish facilities of a hotel will be available and work is underway for the same. The boundaries of the guest house were erected up to 16 feet with barbed wires and metal roofing sheets.

Facilities like Television set, refrigerator, air-condition etc will also be present as per reports.

According to a worker's statement in media, they have been working tirelessly till 2 in the night to complete the VIP cell for Daimary in no time.

Former members of the disbanded NDFB from all factions on August 2 demanded release or shifting of Daimary from Kahilipara citing "poor facility" provided to him. Daimary has been there since July 22.

Militant leader Ranjan Daimary, who was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment, was the mastermind behind the serial bomb blasts in Guwahati on October 30, 2008, which had claimed over a hundred lives and injured over four hundred people.

Daimary bail plea was rejected by the Gauhati High Court in April this year,

Daimary was granted interim bail for about a month on January 24, 2020, to take part in Peace Talks in New Delhi for the Bodo Accord. It was a tripartite agreement signed in the presence of Home Minister of India Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal by NDFB's top leaders of four factions and Satyendra Garg, the Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry and Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna. Under this accord, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) was formed under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
