Kokrajhar, February 21, 2020:

Days after the Bodoland Territorial Region celebrated the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord with much pomp and grandeur, the demand to release Ranjan Daimary, who had been serving a life sentence for the 2008 serial blasts in Guwahati, Assam has come to the fore.

The four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) on Friday raised the demand for Daimary’s release from jail and warned of “democratic protest” against the government in the days ahead if their concerns are not addressed.

At a press conference, former NDFB (Progressive) president Gobinda Basumatary, who had earlier laid down arms along with 1615 cadres of the four NDFB factions, said, “We have filed a petition seeking Ranjan Daimary’s bail extension. His hearing was scheduled for February 20 but was postponed to February 25.”

The NDFB (P) supremo further alleged that the government has conspired against Daimary and said that he should have been allowed to stay outside for a longer period. “They should have let him interact with the public. They should have extended the bail term,” he opined.

The leader further informed that on February 24, the NDFB had planned to celebrate 34 years of revolution. However, the group has unanimously decided not to celebrate as Ranjan Daimary is yet to be released.
