Guwahati, January 25, 2020:

The Gauhati High Court has granted four weeks’ interim bail to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-R) Chairman Ranjan Daimary to take part in the peace talks, scheduled to begin from Saturday in New Delhi.

Daimary was serving life imprisonment in the 2008 serial bomb blasts case. His lawyer had filed a petition seeking his bail, following which, a bench of the Gauhati High Court granted him the four-week bail. The Assam government and Ministry of Home Affairs have also issued a ‘No Objection’ notice in the interest of the peace process.

According to sources, Ranjan Daimary will be flown to New Delhi to join his comrades and take part in the peace talks. President of NDFB (S) faction, B. Saoraigwra, who was held for the massacre of Adivasis in December 2014 had also returned from Myanmar to join the talks.

It may be mentioned here that a ceasefire agreement was signed on January 16 between the NDFB(S) and the Centre. The cadres and leaders of the NDFB(S) have expressed that they would work towards peace and therefore have returned to the mainland.
