NE will be unbeatable in tourism once connectivity is fully established: Th Biswajeet Singh

GUWAHATI: Thongam Biswajeet Singh, Manipur Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, has stated that once the connectivity in the Northeastern region is fully established, no other state will be able to beat the region especially in terms of the tourism sector.

During a talk show organized by InsideNE to mark the 75th Independence Day with Editor-in-Chief Afrida Hussain, Minister Biswajeet Singh shed light on some of the transforming faces of the Northeastern region over a span of over 7 decades.

"Once the connectivity is completed, no mainland state can compete as we have immense potential, especially in the tourism sector. We have to work hard and demand for our rights, that is how we are going to grow that's how discrimination will be reduced.", said Biswajeet Singh.

The Minister opined that the region is becoming stronger because of Modi's policy and determination, and for his focus and special consideration for the entire Northeast.

Speaking about the Ministry of DoNER, Biswajeet Singh added that the ministry has benefitted the Northeastern region in several ways and many projects were sanctioned through it.

"The Ministry has aided the Northeastern region in several ways."

Commenting on border disputes in the region, Biswajeet Singh said that 'disputes have grown along with the civilization of the society.

"Hence, it will remain... it is difficult to diffuse all tensions on these issues. It is not an easy task", Singh added.

Giving the example of Manipur, he said that the state was having problems with neighbouring state Nagaland over Dzuko valley.

"We resolved it with the intervention of Home Minister Amit Shah and we came to a point of understanding".

"Recently there were issues of Assam with Mizoram as well as Meghalaya. They had CM level talks and the credit goes to the Chief Ministers in resolving the issue".

The Minister further shed some light on delays in completion of projects in the region.

"I would have to agree that certain projects are being delayed. Being a politician myself, I have to admit that even in Manipur there are projects that are being delayed. For eg., the civil secretariat has not been finished yet due to many issues".

Further lauding the governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that Modi has transformed the Look East Policy into Act East Policy.

Recalling Modi's 4 C's Culture, Commerce, Connectivity and Capacity Building; he said that Modi left no stone unturned for the development of the Northeastern region.

Biswajeet Singh pointed out that to resolve all the issues within the region there is a need to have a good understanding, dialogue, negotiation, reconciliation, honesty, sincerity. Also, there is a need for intervention from central leaders. "It will go along with us till our last breath", he said.
