GUWAHATI: Neel Dhar Kalita, a prominent leader of the statewide agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act, passed away at 9:30 am at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital after a prolonged liver ailment. He was 58.
Kalita, who was the President of the Baksa district chapter of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), was a staunch opposer of the contentious 'CAA' who took part in the protests that rocked Assam in the latter part of 2019.

In 2016, Kalita had gone on a fast from July 2 to August 12 to protest tabling of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Kalita, who had been elected as the President of the Baksa unit of the KMSS in 2012, held that position up until the time of his death.
