Guwahati: The Assam Police on Monday declared to imposed Section 144 in West Guwahati barring the gathering of more than five people with effect from November 7.

According to a press release issued by the DC office, it is reckoned that some groups of persons or organizations are likely to carry out agitation/demonstration or shouting of slogans in the area which may cause breach of peace and public order, causing disturbance of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning of offices.

It added that agitation or procession as well as assembly of more than five people in areas including Bharalumukh, Fatasil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara is prohibited without prior permission from the competent authority.

It was further mentioned that no landlord and owners of property shall rent or sub-rent any accommodation to any person without furnishing details of the tenant to the concerned police station. Persons dealing in property business are also to abide by the order.

The prohibitory order issued stated that some specified and unspecified persons are likely to disturb the normal functioning of offices, movement of public, and flow of traffic in the area.
