New Sikkim Government adopts austerity measures

Gangtok, May 30, 2019:

The new Sikkim Government led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) adopted austerity measures and decided that pilots would be only provided to the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice, and Speaker.

Moreover, the departmental dinners and lunches will not be held at hotels but guest houses will have to be used for this purpose.

Chief Minister's banquets will be held at Samman Bhawan.

The following decisions have been announced through a notification undersigned by Chief Secretary, AK Shrivastava on Wednesday.

After taking oath as the Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) has introduced many new changes in his style of functioning. Golay’s first move after taking oath has been to announce a five-day work culture for all employees working under the Sikkim Government. He said that the extra holiday can now be used to take care of their health and that of their family members. He also announced that Government officials will now switch to Scorpio SUVs from the high-fuel consuming Fortuners.

Golay was sworn in as the sixth Sikkim Chief Minister along with eleven ministers by Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasada at the Paljor stadium in Sikkim capital Gangtok.
