Assam detects 20 new COVID-19 cases, count nears 700

Assam reported 20 new positive COVID-19 cases. Of the 20 confirmed cases, 6 from Hojai, 6 from Golaghat, 2 from Darrang, 3 from Nagaon and 1 each from Kamrup Metro, Kamrup and Dhemaji.

Informing this Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted:

With this, the number of total confirmed COVID-19 cases has gone up to 686. Of 686 cases, 62 have been cured or discharged, 617 are active while four died due to the infection, and three patients were migrated in Assam.

It may be mentioned that the state registered 116 cases on May 26^th, 2020 while on May 25^th, 2020, the state recorded 147 cases. On May 24^th, 2020, Assam registered 46 COVID-19 cases while on May 23^rd, 2020, the state registered 67 cases while 49 cases were reported on May 22^nd, 2020.

The novel coronavirus has infected over 1.51 lakh people and claimed over 4,000 lives as on May 27, 2020, morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There are 83,004 active cases with 64,426 cases discharged and cured.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross a thousand deaths. It has recorded 54758 corona cases with 16954 cured and 1792 deaths. The western state is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Gujarat has corona 14821 cases with 7139 cured and 915 deaths. Tamil Nadu has registered 17728 cases with 9342 cured and 127 deaths. The National Capital with 14465 COVID-19 cases has crossed the 10 thousand mark on May 25^th, 2020. So far, 7223 have been cured in Delhi with 288 deaths.

India has surpassed China’s official figure of 82,993 confirmed coronavirus cases. India is the 10^th most cases in the world. So far, the USA has the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 1.7 m.
