Without any delay, a police officer jumped into the water and saved the two young boys from drowning in Dibrugarh in Assam.

The Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Barbaruah Police Station, Purnananda Saikia saved the lives of Debasish Dey and Priyanshu Malakar who were drowning while they were fishing near Lakhinagar on June 25th, 2020.

The Deputy Commissioner along with Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh felicitated the officer at Barbaruah Police station for his brave work.

"Such daredevilry during times of natural disaster doubles our 'josh' to keep working for the public security. We thank the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh for felicitating the officer along with SP, Dibrugarh. We are also immensely grateful to Hon'ble DGP Assam Police for talking with ASI Saikia and offering a DGP Commendation,” the Dibrugarh Police said

It may be mentioned that several positive reports of police personnel doing beyond duty hogged the limelight of late.

On June 9th, 2020, Karbi Anglong SP Debojit Deuri wearing a pair of PPE kit performed the last rites in a secluded place after locals opposed the cremation of a 58-year-old COVID-19 victim. Even the staff at a morgue had refused to carry the body of the quinquagenarian, who had succumbed to the disease on June 7th, 2020.

Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Mukul Kumar Saikia told reporters, the body could be cremated at Sunbora village of Bokolia area at the SP’s initiative on June 9th, 2020 morning. “We had wanted to cremate the body in the designated area provided by the district Autonomous Council for COVID-19 victims at Athkilo. But, we could not do so as the locals opposed the cremation fearing for their health,” the DC said.

Later, the body was cremated at an alternate area provided by the Council’s Chief Executive Member in the Doldoli Reserve Forest.
