West Bengal: Siliguri reports four more COVID-19 cases

Siliguri in West Bengal has reported four more COVID-19 cases on May 31st, 2020 taking the total to 22. In North Bengal, there are 46 confirmed cases so far.

Of the four cases, one is from Naxalbari Station Bazar area, one from Phansidewa, who had recently returned from Pune, another one from Bagdogra and one from Kadamtala.

The lethal virus has infected 5130 and claimed 309 lives so far in West Bengal. Of 5130 cases, 2851 are active cases while 1970 have been cured or discharged.

Kolkata registered highest number of positive cases. It has 2053 cases followed by 982 in Howrah and 675 in North22 Parganas.

It may be mentioned that the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital had rejected the samples sent for the COVID-19 test by Sikkim. A total of 85 samples were sent to the NBMCH on May 28th, 2020 for the COVID-19 test which the hospital had refused to accept citing a number of pending cases.

Informing this, the DG cum Secretary Health Department, Dr. Pemba T. Bhutia. Bhutia said, “All the samples have been taken back as the NBMCH rejected to test. The NBMCH said that they will not accept any sample for tests from Sikkim for the next four to five days as the hospital has more than 6000 pending cases.”

India cases so far

The novel coronavirus has infected over 1.82 lakh people and claimed over 5164 lives as on May 31, 2020, morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There are 89995 active cases with 86984 cases discharged and cured.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 2 thousand deaths. It has recorded 65168 corona cases with 28081 cured and 2197 deaths. The western state is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Gujarat has corona 16343 cases with 9230 cured and 1007 deaths. Tamil Nadu has registered 21184 cases with 12000 cured and 160 deaths. The National Capital with 18549 COVID-19 cases has crossed the 10 thousand mark on May 25th, 2020. So far, 8075 have been cured in Delhi with 416 deaths.
