GUWAHATI: As jailed Raijor Dal legislator Akhil Gogoi was presented today in special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Guwahati, the court discharged him from the criminal charges lodged in the Chabua Police Station.
As per the complaint, Gogoi had allegedly thrown a stone at on-duty police personnel who had hit his face and broke his teeth during the Anti-CAA protest.
NIA has already heard the case and due to lack of sufficient evidence, Gogoi was absolved of guilt.
Along with Akhil Gogoi, the court has discharged Debajit Gohain and Bhupen Gogoi from the same case as well.
But shreds of evidence found against another agitator Bhaskarjit Phukan and IPC sections 144 and 148 framed against Phukan.
“Charges against Phukan will not be heard by the NIA court. The case will proceed in the Judicial Magisterial Court in the District of Dibrugarh,” said Akhil Gogoi’s attorney, Krishna Gogoi, while speaking with the media.
The special NIA court to release a 56 paged order as well.
Hearing regarding the complaint lodged at Chandmari Police Station is still underway, his advocate informed.
