NIA court permits Akhil Gogoi to visit his family for 48 hours

GUWAHATI: The special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has permitted the jailed Raijor Dal president and legislator Akhil Gogoi to visit his family for 48 hours.

"The order has been passed today. He can choose a date according to himself to visit his family," Akhil Gogoi's attorney Krishna Gogoi has confirmed this to InsideNE.

"We will be escorted by security forces during the period," Advocate Gogoi added further.

Advocate Krishna Gogoi has also asserted that during this period of 48 hours Akhil Gogoi can stay however and wherever he wants to under the surveillance of security forces.

Akhil Gogoi, who hails from Jorhat district's Mariani, has been in jail since December 2019 under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) charges.

On June 22, a special NIA court has discharged him from one case filed in Chabua Police Station and another case registered in Chandmari Police Station will be heard on Wednesday.

Jailed Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti activist Akhil Gogoi has contested in this Assam Assembly Polls and won from the Sibsagar constituency by a huge margin of 11,875 votes without even being able to campaign for himself.
