NEW DELHI: A three-member NSCN (K) team led by Niki Sumi have reportedly met Government of India officials in Delhi to deliberate on the group joining the long-protracted peace process.

Sumi and his team reportedly met Home ministry officials in Delhi days after Sumi’s offer to revive the ceasefire agreement.

Sumi on December 23 announced that the faction has decided to revive the cease fire with the government of India which it had abrogated in 2015.

At the same time, Niki Sumi-led NSCN (K) has asserted that this should not be misconstrued in any way as a sign of surrender or giving up Naga political rights. Issuing a statement, it has also decried media reports hinting at the same.

Reacting to a report in “Republic TV” which reportedly claimed that NSCN/GPRN led by Sumi was heading for surrender, the group reaffirmed that it stood strong with its aspiration and commitment for Naga political rights till the time it was achieved.

Terming the reportage as outrageous NSCN (K) condemned and rejected it, adding that the reportage was done without knowing even an iota of truth. The MIP condemned Republic TV and other media houses propagating such “malicious news.”

According to reports, the Union government is likely to accept NSCN-K (National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang) leader Niki Sumi offer to revive the ceasefire agreement and the anti-terror cases lodged against him would be dealt with appropriately.

Security agencies have worked on Sumi’s return to India with an eye on concluding the Naga peace deal.
