GUWAHATI: In an interesting development, right after meeting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati on Friday, M Batha, chief of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) has raised sharp objection to the use of the word “surrender” in his case and said, “We have not surrendered.

Rather we are on a ceasefire. We have some demands regarding Bodoland. It would be wrong to say that we have surrendered.”

M Batha, along with 23 other members of the outfit laid down arms on Thursday in Lalpani Police station in Udalguri district a day ago.

Reacting to the statement of M. Batha, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that if Batha had a problem with using the word “surrender” then we can use the word “ceasefire” instead.

“But this should not really matter as all we want is peace. From now onwards, from Guwahati to Serampore there are no more rebel groups.”

He also said that he has asked the Director General of Police to treat M Batha like “a son of the family”.
