KOLKATA: There was no evidence of any attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Nandigram last week to file nomination from Nandigram constituency for the forthcoming Assembly election, said the Election Commission today.

The EC made its decision based on reports from West Bengal's chief secretary and two special poll observers.

According to reports, in their report, the special observers ruled out the possibility that the injury was caused by an attack.

Moreover, state chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said that the video grab collected from the place where the incident took place does not clear the cause of the incident.

Earlier the preliminary police investigation report also stressed that CM Banerjee was not attacked by anyone, and said she was hurt when her car hit a small iron pillar while maneuvering through a narrow street crowded market area.

The chief minister sustained ankle and shoulder injuries in the accident.

Furthermore, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also described the entire incident as a “drama”.
