No home isolation for COVID-19 patients above 50 yrs of age: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Newly-elected Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the COVID-19 patients above 50 years of age will not be allowed to opt for home isolation.

The chief minister said that patients aged above 50 years will mandatorily have to be admitted to Covid Care Centres or hospitals.

Sarma said that the COVID situation in the state is alarming and his new government will discuss it from all perspectives in the first cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow.

After be sworn-in as the chief minister, Sarma visited the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here along with top officials.

 

During his visit, Sarma said strict measures needs to be taken over the next 15 days to contain the spread of the disease.

Earlier in the day, Sarma said that controlling the COVID-19 situation in the state will be his government’s top priority.

Meanwhile, Assam today recorded single-day highest of 77 COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll in the state to 1,753.

On the other hand, Assam’s COVID-19 tally rose to 2.98 lakh as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 5,803 new cases.
