KOHIMA: Nagaland health department has confirmed that out of 41 samples from the state that were sent for whole Genome sequencing on December 23, no Omicron cases were detected.

This was stated in the weekly COVID-19 bulletin of the health department issued yesterday.

The department however said that, the Delta variant of concern (VOC) is still the dominant VOC among the samples sequenced.

It further affirmed that evidence from South Africa and UK suggests good protection against hospitalization and deaths by vaccination for the Omicron VOC.

The department therefore emphasised that it is critical to get vaccinated before the third wave to avoid more deaths and hospitalisations.

Meanwhile, 1,002 samples were tested the past week with a weekly positivity rate of 3 percent. Dimapur reported a weekly sample positivity rate of 5.8 percent, of which 41 percent of new positive cases were among travelers.

4 new admissions were also reported from COVID-19 hospitals. So far, 13.33 lakh doses of COVID-19 have been administered across Nagaland.
