GUWAHATI: Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today giving more insight into the context of 'Love Jihad,' said that legal action will be taken against everyone who "deceives."

Earlier, in March this year, during the Assembly election campaign, home minister Amit Shah during his visit to Assam said if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power, laws will be implemented in Assam against “love jihad” and “land jihad”.

On the BJP's vow to pass a law against "love jihad," CM Sarma stated, "Every promise was designed for implementation. We will do everything we can to make them a reality.”

The law will mandate the bride and groom to disclose their religion and income in official paperwork a month before their wedding.

The law, according to CM Sarma, will be inclusive of all religions and will "empower our sisters by enabling transparency."

"Not only will one have to reveal their religion, but also their source of income. Complete family information, education, and so on," he added.

"We have observed that even in same-religion marriages, the girl eventually discovers that her husband is involved in an unlawful business,” said CM Sarma.

The proposed law will require the man and woman to identify their source of income, occupation, permanent address, and religion on a government-required form. Failure to do so would result in legal action being taken against the couple.
