Northeast's capital cities to be connected soon via rail: PM Modi on I-Day

NEW DELHI: "New history of connectivity being written in Northeast as very soon the state capitals of the Northeast will be connected via rail network," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the 75th Independence Day.

"The task of linking all of the state capitals of the northeast with train services will be done very soon," Modi said, noting that the region is becoming more connected to Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Southeast Asia.

"This connectivity is of hearts as well as of infrastructure," he added.

He announced that the work to connect the state capitals in the region with rail services will be completed soon.

Several regions of the nation, including-- Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, the entire Himalayan region, the coastal belt, and the tribal region, would become a major basis for India's growth in the future, PM Modi added in his Independence Day speech.

Modi during his speech also lauded the Tokyo Olympians for bringing honour and glory to the nation.

"Today in front of us there are olympian who bring laurels for the country - lets cheers and salute to them together. They all give inspiration to the new generation of our countries,' he said.

"Starting from here, the journey of the next 25 years is the ( Amrit kaal) of a new India," he said, adding, "The fulfillment of our resolves in this Amrit Kaal will take us till 100 years of independence."

The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of the frontline personnel in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"During this global pandemic, our doctors, our nurses, our paramedical staff, scavengers, scientists engaged in making vaccines, citizens engaged in service, they all deserve to be salute," he said.
