NPP candidate Agatha Sangma, Congress' Vincent Pala open up lead in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 23, 2019:

As per the latest trends of the Lok Sabha Election 2019 results, Agatha Sangma from the National People's Party (NPP) and Vincent Pala of the Indian National Congress (INC) are leading during the early hours of counting in Northeastern State Meghalaya.

Agatha Sangma is leading in the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency whereas Vincent Pala is leading in the Shillong Lok Sabha Constituency.

It may be mentioned that in the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency, the former Chief Minister of Meghlaya Mukul Sangma is lagging behind.

In Tura, NPP's Agatha Sangma is currently leading the pack with 2,02,709 votes so far against the INC's 1,68,163 votes (42.01 percent). In Shillong, the Indian National Congress's candidate Vincent Pala currently has 2,14,674 votes which are 54.03 percent of the total vote. The MDA's UDP, on the other hand, have 1,42,272 votes which accounts for 35.81 percent.

There are a total of 18,96,010 eligible voters in Meghalaya, of which 9,39,829 are male, 9,56,181 female and 0 voters belong to the Third Gender category. 12,81,164 electorates from Meghalaya have exercised their right to vote.

Currently, the Congress and the National People's Party (NPP) share one parliamentary seat each in the state.

It may be mentioned that the CEO Frederick Kharkongor has confirmed that the results will be declared by 4 pm on Thursday. Nine candidates are contesting the election in Assam.

Agatha Sangma, who won from Tura parliamentary constituency in the 2009 elections and served as a minister in the UPA-II government, had won the Assembly elections from South Tura in 2018. Tura has been without an MP since last year as Conrad Sangma was the sitting member and had resigned after taking over in the state.
