GUWAHATI: The NPS International School, Guwahati has been declared a micro-containment zone from today after many students tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.

According to reports, at least 29 students has been tested positive for the virus.

The micro-containment zone will remain in effect till November 15.

Issuing an order, the Kamrup (M) District Administration said that in light of the detection of COVID-19 positive students at the National Public School, Lalunggaon, Guwahati, under the Kamrup Metropolitan District, the school is hereby declared a Micro Containment Zone, and that the school authority is directed to close the school for the next seven days beginning today, and the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle is directed to close the school.

The order is made under the regulations "The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020.

According to reports, approximately 400 tests were performed, among which  16 were found to be positive in RAT and 13 in RT-PCR, according to reports.

At first, a teacher was found to be positive for the infection.

Later, in contact tracing, 29 students were found to be infected with the virus.

The students who have been affected are all from higher classes.

It may be mentioned that the state government decided to reopen schools across the state following the improvement of the COVID situation in the state.

This is the third school in the city to be infected since the government ordered the reopening of educational institutions in the state.

 

Furthermore, any violation of the order will attract action under "The Assam COVID-19 Regulations 2020 ",  "Disaster Management Act,2005", "The Epidemic disease Act , 1897" and other relevant laws of the nation.
