Ravi, who is the Centre’s interlocutor for holding the Naga peace talks, had run afoul of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) with his

The NSCN-IM had accused Ravi of creating tensions among the parties involved in the negotiations which ran into a roadblock.

Despite a Framework Agreement for Naga Peace Accord having been signed in 2015, the government has not been able to finalise the Accord.

The NSCN-IM holds Ravi, who has refused to budge from his standpoint of not allowing a separate flag and constitution for the state, culpable for the delay in hammering out the final solution.

An order asking all State government employees to list relatives in “underground organisations” proved especially unpopular.

He has been accused by the NSCN-IM of "hounding" the same Naga groups with whom he is supposed to negotiate and conclude the peace talks.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi will hold the additional charge of Nagaland till a regular appointment is made.

Meanwhile, Banwarilal Purohit, the governor of Tamil Nadu before Ravi’s transfer, has been appointed to the same post in Punjab. He was holding the additional responsibility of Punjab.

At the same time, President Ram Nath Kovind also accepted the resignation of Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya who is expected to make a return to active politics in Uttar Pradesh.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan statement read that “The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices."
