Kohima, June 22, 2019:

A self-styled officer of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang (NSCN-K) Yung Aung Faction operating in Nagaland, who is considered responsible for the ambush on 40 Assam Rifles on May 19, has been arrested. Two Assam Rifles jawans were martyred and as many four jawans were seriously injured in the attacks.

Yanghang alias Mopa was reportedly responsible for the ambush of 40th Assam Rifles soldiers in which two soldiers were killed, India.com reports stated.

According to reports, army personnel had been on the lookout for Mopa for a long time following the ambush on May 25.

Military sources said that on May 25,  a convoy of three vehicles of the 40 Assam Rifles unit, based in Tuensang district, was travelling from Tobu village to Ukha village in Mon district when they were intercepted by suspected NSCN (K) militants and fired upon at Changlangshu, leading to the death of two soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, and injury to four others.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm in the afternoon on Saturday.

It is suspected that the Aung Yung-led faction of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang (NSCN-K) is behind the attacks, but no militant organization took responsibility for the attacks so far.

After the incident, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio had taken to micro-blogging platform Twitter to condemn the incident. He wrote that the reports of violence and attacks on security forces by unknown persons, in Mon district, is highly condemnable.

He further conveyed his condolences to those who had been killed and wished speedy recovery for the injured. The Nagaland Chief Minister further appealed for peace from all sections of the society.
