NSCN (R) Cadre Arrested in Assam's Dima Hasao for Extortion

Haflong, September 11, 2019:

A cadre of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim, Reformation, (NSCN-R) rebel outfit was apprehended at Assam's Dima Hasao district on September 10.

Based on reliable intelligence about extortion carried out by NSCN cadres in the region, a joint ops was launched last night by the district police, along with personnel of the 11 Assam Rifles in Bagetar area. During the operation, an NSCN (R) cadre named Hainamteung Newme (aged 36) was nabbed. Newme is a resident of P Paisa village in Dima Hasao district.

The cadre has been apprehended and a 'fake' SIM used by the cadre used for carrying out extortion activities has been seized. The accused admitted his crime and said that he had joined the NSCN (IM) in 2008, before joining the Reformation faction in 2014. Legal action is being taken against the extortionist.
