SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the opposition was scared of his presence in the poll-bound Rajabala constituency.

"The opposition was scared of my presence in the Rajabala constituency, but my presence in the Rajabala constituency was to understand the issues and concerns of our people," Sangma said.

CM Sangma has campaigned in tribal-dominated areas as well as plain belt areas under Rajabala by camping at Batabari for six days for the upcoming by-elections in the state.

By-polls in Meghalaya will be held in three constituencies--Mawryngkneng, Rajabala, and Mawphlang.

The by-elections are scheduled for October 30, 2021.

Attacking the Congress left, right, and centre, CM Sangma criticized Mukul and his brother Zenith for propagating lies because they are worried about the NPP's growing popularity in Rajabala.

People in the constituency voted for Congress in 2018, but things are different now, said Conrad.

People in the constituency voted for Congress in 2018, but things are different now, said Conrad. "The National People's Party (NPP) is in power in the state and is working hard to assure development. The residents of Rajabala must unite behind the ruling party in order for the NPP to win the bye-election, he added.

He further said that NPP will win all three seats with a whopping majority.

On the other hand, the high voltage campaign for the by-election has come to an end today evening.

CM Sangma, along with other MLAs and MDCs, organized a big rally and electoral meeting in Bhaitbari, Rajabala constituency, to demonstrate the NPP's strength.

NPP candidate appreciated NPP MLAs and MDCs for tirelessly campaigning for him in both the hills and plains to gain support for the party.

The bypolls have been necessitated following the deaths of two Congress members, David Nongrum from Mawryngkneng and Azad Zaman from Rajabala, and an associate member of the United Democratic Party, Syntar Klas Sunn from Mawphlang constituency.

Mawphlang legislator Syntar Klas Sunn passed away on September 10.
