Over 1100 BSF personnel test COVID-19 positive in Northeast, Tripura records highest cases

Over 1100 personnel of the BSF guarding the border that Bangladesh shares with Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram have been tested positive for the COVID-19 in Northeast India so far.

Tripura Frontier is the worst-hit state in the region where 720 cases have been detected. Majority of the cases were reported at the 138th Battalion headquartered at Ambasa in Dhalai district in Tripura.

Meanwhile, a total of 282 BSF personnel have been tested positive for the COVID-19 in Meghalaya; of which 70 have recovered. On the other hand, Mizoram health department informed that 32 BSF personnel have been tested positive for the lethal virus in the state while more than 90 personnel have been tested in Assam.

Northeast

Assam has the highest COVID-19 cases in the Northeast India followed by Tripura. Assam has registered 29,921 cases followed by 3759 in Tripura, 2146 in Manipur and 1239 in Nagaland. Assam has also registered highest death cases in the region with 76 fatalities.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India recorded the more than 48916 COVID-19 cases and 757 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1336861. The death toll is now 31358, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 456071 while 849432 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 357117 corona cases with 199967 cured, 13132 deaths, and 144018 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 128389 cases with 110931 cured, 3777 deaths, and 13681 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 199749 positive cases with 143297 cured, 3320 deaths 53132 active cases. Gujarat with 53545 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 38849 have been cured, 2278 deaths, and 12418 active cases.
