SILCHAR: Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya yesterday said that in spite of the reopening of the route, truckers are "unwilling" to enter Mizoram fearing "harassment" in the name of COVID-19 test. The Minister made his comment amid border skirmishes between Assamese and Mizo citizens over alleged territorial incursions.

Speaking to reporters along the inter-state border with Mizoram, Minister Suklabaidya said that drivers have expressed their unwillingness to enter Mizoram with truckers fearing "harassment" in the name of COVID-19 test.

The Minister said steps are being taken for facilitating arrangements in the camps meant for the Seema Suraksha Bal jawans deployed along the border.

Parimal Suklabaidya said this while visiting the Assam-Mizoram inter state border at Dholakhal and Lailapur area on Thursday along with DIG Southern Assam, Dilip Kumar Dey, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli, Superintendent of Police, Banwarlal Meena, Divisional Forest Officer, Sunnydeo Chowdhury along with other officials.

He made it clear that Assam is well aware of its territory and as per the Survey of India map, the border areas are clearly marked. "Mizoram will have to retreat eventually and we are not going to budge an inch of our territory," he asserted.

However, Suklabaidya said that Assam wants to keep brotherhood and harmony intact with the neighboring state.
