Gangtok, October 10, 2019:
As tensions continue to soar ahead of the Assembly Elections in Sikkim, violence has already begin in parts of the State between the supporters of the major parties, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Former CM Pawan Chamling’s son, Komal Chamling, was injured in a latest incident of violence.
Komal was reportedly injured after SKM supporters attacked SDF party president Pawan Chamling’s vehicle at Upper Salghari under Poklok Kamrang a while back.
Chamling escaped unhurt but his vehicle was damaged in the attack. His daughter Komal Chamling who was in the vehicle sustained some light injuries in the attack after getting hit by a stone, it is learnt.
Santosh Subba, SDF spokesperson condemned the incident and said that today’s incident has forced him to believe that SKM is indeed party of goons.
“Every vehicle in the campaign has been severely vandalised. The huge stones hurled failed to find human targets otherwise lives would have been lost today”, he said, adding, “Is this the politics SKM wants to now normalise in Sikkim? I’m short of words to express my agony and outrage.”
Bye Elections to 63 constituencies across Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 21.
It may be mentioned here that Sikkim will head for Bye Elections in Gangtok, Martam Rumtek and Poklok Kamrang Constituencies.
