Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu has reiterated the long-pending demand for a separate cadre in frontier State Arunachal Pradesh. Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote, "A separate cadre is the need of the hour for a sustainable and seamless development of our State, which I had been pressing for all along."

It may be mentioned that Arunachal Governor B D Mishra had recently also called on Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jitendra Singh to discuss a the setting up of a separate cadre for Arunachal Pradesh.

Commending Mishra for his initiative, Pema Khandu wrote, "I whole heartedly thank our Hon’ble Governor for his proactiveness in taking up the issue with appropriate office in GOI."

It may be mentioned here that earlier, senior Congress leader Ninong Ering had demanded separate cadres for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) after news broke that an IAS officer, Kashish Mittal, had tendered his resignation after being transferred to Arunachal. This incident in September of this year.

While speaking to Inside Northeast, Ering stated that it is rather unfortunate that Arunachal does not have its own cadre. “Most of the Northeastern states have their own cadres, but Arunachal, unfortunately, does not. When an officer gets transferred here, he/she tends to regard it as a punishment post. However, if we get a separate cadre, we will have people who will be truly committed to the cause of Arunachal. This is a stand I have been reiterating since the days I was elected as an MP”, he says.
