Pema Khandu to be Sworn in as Arunachal CM Tomorrow

Pema Khandu has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the Arunachal Pradesh BJP unit after an Arunachal Pradesh BJP party meeting held in Itanagar on Monday.

Consequently, Khandu met Arunachal Pradesh Governor BD Mishra and staked claim to form the Government in the frontier state.

BD Mishra, under the provisions of Article 164 (1) of the Constitution of India appointed Pema Khandu as the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister and invited him to form the government.

The swearing in ceremony of Pema Khandu, who will begin his second tenure as Chief Minister, will take place on May 29 at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre in Itanagar, named after his father who was also a former Chief Minister.

This was also confirmed by BJP leader Kiren Rijiju on social media platform Twitter. Rijiju tweeted: "Pema Khandu will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 29 May. Extend my gratitude to BJP MLAs for electing Khandu as the BJP legislature party leader."

The BJP won the both the Assembly and Lok Sabha election in the state with a clear margin. In the Assembly election, the BJP won 41 seats in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly after results of all the constituencies were announced. The BJP candidates Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao also won in the two Lok Sabha Constituencies in the State -- Arunachal West and Arunachal East, respectively.

It may be mentioned that the BJP will form the government with absolute majority for the first time in Arunachal.

In the Assembly election, the Janata Dal (United) won seven seats, the National People’s Party (NPP) five, the Congress four, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) one and Independents two.

The election in Arunachal was held during the first phase of polling on April 11. Results were announced on May 23.
