New Delhi, September 28, 2019:

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has urged the citizens of the country to join the 'Fit India' Plog Run in New Delhi, as a tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 150th birth anniversary.

The 'Plog Run', to be held across the country, is a product of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Fit India' initiative, which was launched on August 29.

What is plogging, one might ask. Well, 'plogging' involves picking up plastic and other waste from the surroundings while jogging. Thus, it aims to kill two birds with one stone -- taking care of the environment, as well as one's body.

Rijiju took to Twitter to appeal the people to join the mass movement on October 2nd. "Please join #PloggingRun on 2nd Oct Gandhi Jayanti. We can collect any litter on the route while jogging. The trash-collecting activity while jogging will make India more CLEAN & FIT. Let us make the #FitIndiaMovement launched by PM @narendramodi ji a people's movement", his tweet read.

It may be mentioned here that 1,200 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country, CBSE-affiliated schools, industry bodies such as FICCI, CII, Phd Chambers and Assocham, 2500 RWAs in Delhi and NCR are joining hands to organize the Fit India Plog Run across the nation.
