New Delhi, October 23, 2019:

Scandal-ridden Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been re-elected for a second term on Monday, earning congratulations from Indian PM Narendra Modi.

Trudeau was re-elected in a stronger-than-expected showing in Monday's national elections, but while his Liberal Party took the most seats in Parliament, it lost its majority. Now, the liberals will have to rely on an opposition party to get anything passed.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, congratulated his Canadian , Trudeau. PM Modi wrote, "India and Canada are connected by shared values and a strong commitment to democracy as well as plurality. Looking forward to working together to further strengthen bilateral relations."

It may be mentioned here that Trudeau had a bumpy first time that was ridden with scandals. Recently, Trudeau was criticized after it came to light that he had worn the racially inappropriate 'blackface' during parties in his youth.

Trudeau was also battling 'unmet expectations', and although the main rivals, the Conservative party decreased their deficit against the rivals, the Liberals, their votes did not transform into actual wins.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau begins his second term facing an increasingly divided Parliament and country, with his rock-star appeal from four years ago diminished by scandal and unmet expectations.

“Thank you, Canada, for putting your trust in our team and for having faith in us to move this country in the right direction,” Trudeau tweeted after his victory. “Regardless of how you cast your vote, our team will work hard for all Canadians.”
