Guwahati, July 3, 2019:

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has organized statewide protests against the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday. The farmers' body also burned PM Modi effigies at the Rehabari locality in Guwahati city of Assam to mark their protest against the administration.

Dhairjya Konwar, the General Secretary of the KMSS, who led the cries against the BJP in Guwahati city, labeled the ruling party as 'hypocrites' while talking to Inside Northeast.

"The BJP are hypocrites, they claim that the natural resources of Assam are 'national resources', while at the same time, they refuse to acknowledge the Assam flood problem as a 'national problem'. They have betrayed the people of Assam by not fulfilling their promises", he said.

"Moreover, they will not grant ST status to the six agitating communities of the state, despite making promises in the past. This shows that the BJP are not at all committed to solving the problems of the people in the State of Assam", he said.

KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi addressing the media on Tuesday had said: “Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Social Justice and Empowerment, Ratan Lal Katari on Monday announced at the Lok Sabha session that flood will not be considered as a national issue. The Central Government has disagreed to declare flood in Assam as a national issue. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives more importance to Assam, whereas Modi and the current government are blackmailing the people of the state, which was proved yesterday."
