New Delhi, March 2, 2020:

At a time when the entire nation is burning over issues such as the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC), PM Narendra Modi seems to be on the verge of "blinding" himself to the worries of the world by quitting social media.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, the PM posted a cryptic message in which he dated that he is "thinking" of giving up all his social media accounts on Sunday.

This is indeed a shocking development as PM Modi is one of the most "followed" personalities on social and boasts of millions of followers across all platforms.

Moreover, the PM and his deputy Amit Shah have come under immense pressure amid communal riots in Delhi that have claimed at least 46 lives. Many have gone so far as to compare it to the 2002 riots that burned Gujarat when Modi was CM there.

It is indeed baffling that the PM wants to turn tail and vacate social media when his followers largely look to Twitter for any developments related to Modi. Modi's presence on social media is especially necessary as he has largely shied away from holding press conferences.

Has too much negativity gotten to the PM? That seems likely, but holding the apex position in the country, Modi is expected to address the concerns of the people instead of turning away.

Meanwhile, Congress rival Rahul Gandhi, taking a jibe at the PM, wrote: "Take a break from hatred, not social media."
