GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam again on April 1. The prime minister will address an election rally in Kokrajhar during his one day visit.
On the other hand union home minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah will also visit the state again on March 31.
Both the leaders will visit the state to campaign for the third and final phase of Assam assembly election to be held on April 6.
The four legislative assembly constituencies in Kokrajhar district will go to the polls on April 6.
Key candidates contesting from Kokrajhar West constituency are Manaranjan Brahma of United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Rabiram Narzary of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
On the other hand, Lawrence Islary of UPPL and Pramila Rani Brahma of BPF are the key candidates contesting from the Kokrajhar East constituency.
Pramila Rani Brahma won from the Kokrajhar East assembly constituency six consecutive times between 1991 to 2016 as an independent candidate on first four occasions and later from the BPF.
Brahma’s main opponent in this election is Lawrence Islary of the UPPL. Islary is the former general secretary of the influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) who joined UPPL last month and is contesting election for the first time.
The first phase of polls in Assam was held on March 27 while the second and third phase will be held on April 1 and April 6 respectively. Counting of votes will take place on May 2.
