PM Modi to announce Nationwide rollout of PM-DHM on Sept 27

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the nationwide rollout of the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM), which has been renamed as Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM), on September 27.

The Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission aims to make universal health coverage accessible, inclusive, efficient, economical, and safe by providing a variety of data, information, and infrastructure services said officials.

Under the PM-DHM scheme, to be launched on Monday, a digital health ID will be provided to the people, which will contain all the health records of the person.

This digital health ID will be made unique for each person and will be created with details like Aadhaar and mobile number.

The PM-DHM is currently in its pilot phase across the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.

According to an official,“ The primary aim of this mission is to enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system in India. The National Digital Health ecosystem will be a one-stop solution for the healthcare needs of the common man.The difficulty of maintaining long trails of paper-based health records, or standing in long queues at health facilities, etc. will no longer be a burden in this digitally-driven ecosystem.”

He further said, “ Besides, there will be continuity of treatment without any hassle as access to health records will be just a click away for doctors once given consent by the patient. To sum up, this initiative will revolutionise the delivery of high-quality services to patients by making healthcare providers more accessible and accountable.”

Under the flagship scheme, a national digital health ecosystem will be created through the provision of a wide range of data, information, and infrastructure services, duly leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems while ensuring security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.

The flagship scheme will digitalize healthcare by creating a country-wide digital health ecosystem that will enable patients to store, access and consent to share their health records with doctors and health facilities of their choice.
