CHANDIGARH: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the restored complex of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial in Punjab’s Amritsar on Saturday.

In a statement The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said that along with the Bagh memorial, PM Modi will inaugurate the museum galleries built at the memorial in Amritsar.

Further it added that the virtual event will display multiple development initiatives taken by the government to upgrade the complex.

On Friday, Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that the Prime Minister would inaugurate the new galleries. He added, “The “Shaheedi well” or martyrdom well has been “repaired and restored with a redefined super structure”.

Reportedly, the memorial would include a sound and light show to depict the events of April 13, 1919.

According to the Ministry, “The renovations included repair of the flame monument, rejuvenation of a water body and broadening of pathways for smoother movement.”

As per the reports, the modernized memorial was to be inaugurated on April 13 this year to mark 102 years of the massacre. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the ceremony had to be postponed.

PM Modi tweeted, “At 6:25 PM this evening, a programme will be held that will interest the people. The renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak will be dedicated to the nation. India will never forget the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh.
