Stressing on the idea of 'festival tourism' during his address to the nation, the Prime Minister stated that everyone must try to popularize their local festivals so that people from other states can visit and thereby increase revenue.

"India is a country of festivals, there is a lot of scope of festival tourism here. Be it Holi, Diwali, Onam, Pongal or Bihu - we should make an effort to publicise such festivals and include other states, other countries in the celebrations", the Prime Minister said, during his address on Diwali day.

It may be recalled that the Indian Prime Minister has an old connection with the State of Assam, and especially the ethnic scarf, the gamcha, which he tends to drape around his shoulders while performing yoga.

In a candid interview with Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar ahead of the 2019 General Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed a different way of utilizing the ‘Gamusa’. In a surprising revelation, the Prime Minister claimed that the ‘Gamusa’ of Assam does wonders for him when used when he is in a state of pain.

“I will tell you what to do when you have no ayurvedic medicine with you. When you climb a mountain, your legs will ache and you will not find a physiotherapist or anyone else to help you out. I carry the ‘Gamucha’ from Assam around my neck all the time. When my legs pain, I wrap it around my legs and insert a small piece of wood in the middle and twist the wood both sides. It gives me immense relief from pain", PM Narendra Modi said.
