Guwahati, October 7, 2018:

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located on the outskirts of Guwahati, reopened for tourists on Sunday.

Forest Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, along with Minister of State for Health, Pijush Hazarika, opened the sanctuary. According to official sources, the sanctuary, called “Mini Kaziranga”, will remain open either till April 30 or May 15 next year depending on the weather.

According to reports, ten elephants and 20 jeeps are the new additions for safari inside the sanctuary. The safari rates remained unchanged. The revenue collection from tourists and visitors is expected to exceed to around Rs.40 lakh in 2017-18 compared to Rs.33 lakh in 2016-17.

The sanctuary is home to one-horned rhinos, wild buffaloes, wild boars, and different species of snakes. The migratory birds also come here when winter sets in.

Meanwhile, two ranges of the Kaziranga National Park will be opened for tourists from October 12. With the onset of the festive season, the forest department is expecting a large turnout of tourists.
