The poisonous water of Berger Paints India factory is allegedly causing huge damage to cropland in Koliabor in Nagaon district of Assam. Farmers of Arimora paddy field in Naltali have been allegedly spending sleepless night as their cropland are getting damaged due to the waters from the factory.

Not only cropland, the poisonous water of the factory have badly effected the aqua lives of the nearby ponds. This has been happening for the last three years. Though the farmers have been taking up the matter with the Berger paints India authority, they have been in a denying mode. The authorities are unwilling to buy the fact that its water have been causing damage to the nearby hectares of croplands.

The Berger paints authorities have also denied of compensating the farmers due to the damage caused. This has lead the farmers to a state of penury.

It may be mentioned that Berger Paints India had commenced commercial production of its integrated paint and putty plant at Naltali, Nagaon on March 30, 2017. The plant has an annual capacity of 48,000 KL/MT per annum of water based paints, 24,000 KL of solvent based paints, 14,000 MT of Resin and 24,000 MT of wall putty.

Berger Paints India is one of the largest paint companies in India with a gross turnover of more than Rs 5,000 crore. It is present in all segments of paint including Decorative, Automotive, Industrial, Protective and Powder Coatings.
