Police constable allegedly humiliated by Manipur MLA, FIR lodged

Thoubal Dam police station has registered an FIR against the Wangkhem MLA Keisham Meghachandra based on a written complaint filed by one police head constable K Gaipuilin of Noney Police station in Manipur.

The MLA has been charged with obstruction to government servant, criminal intimidation, SC/ST prevention of atrocities, Penalty for disorderly conduct in or near polling station under section 353/509/34 IPC, 3(1) x SC/ST prevention of atrocities act 1989 & 131 (I)(b)(2) RP Act 1951.

The Head Constable in his complaint accused the MLA and his party of obstructing his duty during the polling. The constable in his written complaint said that he was detained at the Polling station no 7/40 Nongpok Keithelmanbi Primary school during Phase-II poll duty on April 18, 2019. At about 12.20 pm on the same day, while he was on duty at the polling station, one unknown person called him out asking him to meet one MLA who was sitting with his associates at the community hall located near the polling station. When he reached there, one person who identified himself as MLA K Meghachandra criminally intimidated him in the presence of the people without any reason. He even threatened to suspend the cop from the job, it is alleged.

He also alleged that the MLA insulted him with intent to humiliate before the public, apart from acting in a disorderly manner so as to interfere with the work of police personnel deployed at the said polling station.
